What are you doing on the water this year
Been working on my "go fast" stroke in the Prism. The Prism is a little wide but I'm getting used to it. Hope to do some racing this year.
Will be doing some tripping this year also.
What are other paddledogs doing on the water this year?

Re: What are you doing on the water this year
Well, June 9th, Saterday morning at 9:00am I'll be beginning a 260mi paddle with nearly 100 other boats from San Marcus Texas to Seadrift Texas. Hope to arrive Seadrift on or about Monday June 11th. After that I plan to do some serious recreational paddling/camping in the Eff El Aye Big Bend/panhandle area. Maybe I'll see some of you folks on the water.

Re: What are you doing on the water this year
Probably just short day trips near home for me this summer. Hope to do some overnighters this fall, either on the Suwannee (if we ever get caught on on rain!) or maybe the Big Bend Canoe Trail. Will be up in the Adirondacks again for business in September, will get in a weekend paddle on some remote lake.

Howdy- I am brand new to your site, and still very new to paddling. I live in Western Montana, where I am paddling some fast, high muddy water right now as spring run-off commences. This is just my second season in my we no nah argosy solo canoe. I have a lot to learn! and fortunately have a wonderful supportive bunch of more experienced paddlers who surround me like quacking mother ducks while on river. I had quite a bad accident last summer and plan to spend a lot more time on slow water and flat water, throwing myself around and getting the hang of tipping points and things like how to lean INTO the rocks... whew. A lot of paddling is not exactly intuitive, is it? Not intuitive exactly, but... compelling.

Re: What are you doing on the water this year
Welcome Nan!
We're looking forward to reading about paddling in Montana.. maybe even see a few pictures (hint, hint!)
A few suggestions for you, as a new paddler:
It's good you have a group of experience paddlers to help you out, but nothing takes the place of formal instruction! You'll learn so much more, much more quickly!
If there aren't any instruction programs in your area, try going to paddling events. They often offer classes.
Check out any local clubs. (We have one Montana club in the PaddleDog Club Directory:
http://www.bigforkoutrigger.com.
If you haven't already, download our
Beginner's Guide
for basic safety guidelines
You may want to consider joining the American Canoe Assn (americancanoe.org)
Also, PaddleDog Beekeeper seems to be our resident expert on solo canoeing and may be able to give you some pointers (I believe he also paddles an Argosy.)
We'll do some research on paddling with dogs, to see if we can find some pointers.
Welcome to PaddleDogNation!
