Have High Gas Prices Changed Your Paddlin Plans?
Just curious how everyone is coping.  Local trips?  Carpooling?

Great question! For me - I just changed jobs and moved cities so, with the expenses of setting up housekeeping and the cost of gas, I have barely any thought of going paddling - ALTHOUGH I need to get back to the water BADLY.

I'm trying to not let it affect me, but my paddlin' partners are having trouble justifying the gas cost and that does affect me since Grandma won't go with me (although she did go to the ADK Paddlefest with me)and doesn't like me going solo. If anyone's interested, I'm willing to drive up to 200 miles for a 2 nighter or longer.
Better to be up the creek without a paddle than to not be on the creek at all.

Well, there is good news and bad news out here.  Good news is gas prices in the L.A./Orange County area are starting to stablize.  Bad news is they are still the highest in the country.  I'm definitely looking into a bike trailer for the yak.   Sheesh!

Re: Have High Gas Prices Changed Your Paddlin Plans?
Unfortunately, a bike trailer won't help me much. My closest day paddle is 10 miles to the put in and +/-15 miles from the take out to home-most of which is uphill. Most of my paddling is extended and my favorite put in is 65 miles and the take out is 100. Gas here is about $4.23. Talked to my sister in Fresno last week and she was paying over $4.50. Filled my truck Monday $96.00!!! And it had been 31 days since the previous fill up. Since I retired, I've gone from 2 or 3 times a week to once every 2 or 3 weeks. Mostly go in Grandma's Liberty since it gets better mileage.
